The Spring Program is this Thursday, May 16th at 7:00 in the Cathedral. Students should be in their classrooms by 6:45 pm. Parking is available in the PHFA parking garage.

The Foundation For Enhancing Communities – Opportunity Scholarship Funding Available

The Foundation For Enhancing Communities has received money for the Opportunity Scholarship Tax credit to provide scholarships for the 2012-13 school year. If your child attends a low achieving, qualifying school and you would like to apply for funds for this year, please follow the link below to apply for the scholarship.

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT AND ST. STEPHEN’S

Our team of volunteer teachers is well qualified and comprises present and retired business owners, executives and other professionals.

Each of our nine grades has a specially designed theme, that builds upon each other to form a program that fits with our sequential social studies curriculum. SSES students from kindergarten through eighth grade benefit from this extra-curriculum education focused on:

Entrepreneurship
Work Readiness
Finance
Economic Literacy

JA builds bridges spanning the chasm between school and work. It introduces the business world to our young people and helps them understand and appreciate our free-enterprise system. Through hands-on experience, our children learn the reason for and the value of education. They are taught knowledge of basic business principles, economics, and develop critical thinking ability. This foundation will stand them in good stead at their first job interview and help to enrich their lives.

Our volunteers are positive role models and bring outside business perspectives into the classroom by weaving their personal knowledge and business experiences into the curriculum. Most importantly, they teach how and why education is necessary for success and how JA knowledge gained can attain this by helping with college entry and improving job interviewing skills. On a national basis, teachers, volunteers and students have agreed for years that JA programs help build self-confidence and assurance in their students and help them learn leadership and professionalism for the workplace.
